Over the past few months, Zoom has become a household name as the world embraced the convenience of the company’s free solution to work from home and stay connected. Although the bulk of the company’s growth has been focused on the massive increase in consumer adoption, enterprises have begun to pay closer attention to Zoom Phone, the company’s unified communications offering. While video-enabled collaboration platforms will continue to play a critical role in the new world of work, school, and even family – the enterprise use case is particularly interesting.
In my personal life, I’ve seen how easy it is for my daughters to use Zoom for their school work. My father (who is far from tech savvy!) uses Zoom to video call me and talk to his grandchildren. I’m not sure this was the company’s original intent when they launched Zoom Video. Regardless, the tool has transformed public perception of video-enabled collaboration as a widely accepted means of communication. The basic version is easy and intuitive to set up, and is free of charge as long as you’re calling within the platform, which appeals to consumers as a way to keep in touch with friends and family.
Introducing BYOC with Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone, the company’s Unified Communications offering, is not as widely known even to enterprise customers. The solution enables enterprises to work with an existing carrier to access PSTN lines with standard minutes billing. Recently Zoom launched a service called BYOC (bring your own carrier), which enables businesses to connect their current carrier service with phone numbers (DIDs) while benefiting from the Zoom cloud using Zoom Phones.
Zoom Phone enables enterprises to connect their networks to telephony infrastructure while delivering a meeting experience that looks and feels much like the familiar video call that has emerged as the new normal.
Frontera Energy Case Study with Zoom
Frontera Energy’s Zoom Phone deployment is a great case in point.
This is what the energy company had to say about its experience with Zoom Phone.
“After reviewing our technology stack, we discovered that we were using a lot of legacy systems and applications; a lot of old technology,” said Santiago Lievano, Frontera’s Head of Information Technology. “We didn’t have a unified communications environment. We were using traditional landlines in Canada and a PSTN provider in Colombia for our phone solution, as well as several tools for video conferencing and chat.”
Zoom Phone can deliver PBX replacement anywhere in the world, providing global access and availability through AudioCodes session border controllers (SBCs) for secure “bring your own carrier” (BYOC) connectivity into Zoom cloud. This capability enables enterprises to connect existing PSTN trunks directly to Zoom Phone using on-premise SBCs from AudioCodes to redirect voice traffic through SIP trunk connections. Alternatively, you can use our cloud-native SBC solutions on Microsoft Azure or AWS.
AudioCodes One Voice for Zoom Phone
AudioCodes One Voice for Zoom delivers voice connectivity and productivity solutions that are easy to deploy and manage for enterprises with Zoom Phone deployments. The offering empowers IT professionals to deliver efficient BYOC services and coexistence with legacy PBXs using SBCs, intuitive IP phones and Room Experience (RX) devices, as well as quality monitoring and management solutions.
Based on Zoom “ZTP” (Zero touch provisioning with Zoom) the deployment and provisioning of AudioCodes IP Phones are not only easy and intuitive, but requires no registration. The final result is the familiar “plug and play” phone experience ZTP was designed to support. Once the IT Department binds a phone with a user, anyone can plug the phone into the home network (Wi-Fi or fixed Ethernet cable), connecting much like you would within the corporate network. It really is that simple, enabling enterprises to adopt a video-enabled meeting experience while keeping the benefits of traditional real PBX voice functionality.
Using AudioCodes One Voice Operations Center (OVOC) for multi-region and multi-site connectivity, enterprises can also monitor and manage the entire telephony network including SBCs, ensuring voice quality standards are met throughout the organization. Enterprises can also deliver continuous productivity by including Meeting Insights in the stack, enabling users to capture and organize meeting-generated content and related meta-data. With next-generation AI features and Keyword Spotting (KWS), Meeting Insights upgrades the UC stack to deliver an intelligent and centralized company meeting platform.
Delivered and supported by a single field-proven vendor, the AudioCodes offering is designed to support future-proof unified communications requirements for years to come.
