Rimera Modernize Their Voice Network AND Avoid Disruption

At AudioCodes, we believe that our advanced communications software, products and productivity solutions represent the best quality and the best value in today’s ultra-competitive marketplace. But you don’t have to take our word for it! In this post, you’ll meet just one of our delighted customers, Rimera Group, and see exactly how our innovative technology helped solve their real-life business challenges.

The Customer

Rimera Group, the oilfield services division of ChelPipe Group, incorporates oil production equipment manufacturers and oilfield service providers in Russia’s key oil producing regions.

The Challenge

Like many large, multi-site organizations, Rimera had accumulated a whole bunch of disparate communications solutions over the years, including PBXs and IP-PBXs from vendors such as Cisco, Panasonic and NEC. Each site was connected to local telecom service providers via TDM or SIP trunks. The company had also recently rolled out a limited unified communications (UC) solution, in the form of Microsoft’s Skype for Business, to some employees.

This setup had several drawbacks, including difficulties managing the voice network, high call costs and the inability to smoothly migrate to a company-wide UC solution. Rimera sought a voice solution that would increase operational efficiency, lower communications costs and pave the way for future migrations – without having to throw out all their existing systems.

The Solution

Rimera chose AudioCodes’ unique Software-Defined Voice Network solution, or SDvN, to simplify the operations of their voice networks and increase call routing efficiency. SDvN achieves this through separation of the voice infrastructure and call routing control layers, enabling the consolidation of communications silos, connectivity with SIP trunk services and utilization of the corporate IP network to optimize call routing.

AudioCodes Mediant session border controllers (SBCs), were deployed to link up Rimera’s eight main sites and provide seamless connectivity between its on-premises PBXs, Skype for Business UC platforms and local telecom carriers. AudioCodes MediaPack analog gateways were used to integrate legacy analog devices into the network.

The AudioCodes Routing Manager (ARM), operated by Rimera’s IT department from a single location using an intuitive graphical interface, completed the SDvN solution by streamlining the company’s call routing management and introducing cost-saving policies. In addition, the AudioCodes One Voice Operations Center (OVOC) was deployed to deliver centralized network device lifecycle management and voice quality monitoring – again, all from a single location.

The Results

The introduction of AudioCodes products and the SDvN solution into Rimera’s corporate voice network has significantly improved network efficiency and slashed their call costs. ChelPipe, Rimera’s parent company, is also considering taking the AudioCodes SDvN route to modernize its own voice network infrastructure.

“The [SDvN] approach enabled us to modernize our voice network without having to undertake a major forklift replacement of our existing telephony equipment, something that would have been extremely costly and disruptive to our users.”

Rustam Abdrakhmanov, CIO, Chelpipe Group
