At AudioCodes, we’re confident that our advanced communications software, products and productivity solutions offer the very best quality and value in today’s ultra-competitive business landscape. Read on to see how our market-leading technology helped Germany-based Bizerba create a productivity-boosting Microsoft Teams unified communications solution.

The Customer

Bizerba SE & Co. KG is a leading global supplier of weighing, slicing and labelling technologies for industry and trade purposes, with more than 4500 employees and 120 subsidiaries worldwide. The company has production facilities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, China and the USA, as well as a global network of sales and service locations.

The Challenge

Bizerba’s communications network consisted primarily of Microsoft Skype for Business and Alcatel-Lucent PBXs across 71 different locations, along with various local PBX systems. To streamline their network technologies and enhance communication among geographically dispersed employees, the company decided to implement a single unified telephony infrastructure globally.

The ideal solution for Bizerba had to meet two crucial requirements: reliable voice and video calling capabilities for their employees everywhere, and robust security measures to safeguard against potential cyber threats. Additionally, the solution had to be capable of meeting Bizerba’s networking and traffic needs in the long term, as well as reducing communications and maintenance costs.

The Solution

To kickstart their journey towards unified communications, Bizerba made a strategic move by transitioning their employees to Microsoft Teams. The platform's impressive array of features, including instant messaging, online collaboration and reliable voice and video calling, aligned perfectly with the company’s productivity goals.

With the assistance of AudioCodes’ partners binder Systemhaus GmbH and TOPAS electronic AG, Bizerba next focused on upgrading their communications network by replacing all on-premises PBX systems with cloud solutions.

The implementation process was remarkably seamless. By deploying AudioCodes Mediant Virtual Edition (VE) session border controllers in the Microsoft Azure cloud, a parallel infrastructure was created that enabled users to make and receive calls through either the legacy PBXs or Microsoft Teams during the transition phase. This flexibility allowed Bizerba to migrate their users to Microsoft Teams at their own pace, without experiencing any disruptive downtime.

The Results

By choosing AudioCodes’ Azure-based Mediant VE session border controllers, Bizerba obtained a robust, dependable and secure infrastructure for their Microsoft Teams voice platform that perfectly complemented their unified communications goals.

Now, regardless of their location, Bizerba's employees can fully leverage all the productivity-boosting features of Microsoft Teams. With a single channel for voice and video calling, instant messaging and content sharing, collaboration has never been easier. Bizerba have also taken advantage of Microsoft Teams’ inherent flexibility and adaptability to integrate additional services, like call center platforms and voicemail functionality, into their unified communications solution.

Looking ahead, Bizerba has exciting plans in store. They are actively considering migrating their remaining AudioCodes hardware-based SBCs to virtual, cloud-based versions, further optimizing their infrastructure. They are also exploring the possibility of deploying the AudioCodes One Voice Operations Center (OVOC) voice network management solution to provide comprehensive oversight of all their network elements.

“Thanks to AudioCodes’ SBCs, Bizerba now has a state-of-the-art infrastructure for leveraging the power of Microsoft Teams, enabling our employees to communicate effectively with each other and with our customers, no matter where they are.”
